O God, you are my God, earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you, my body longs for you, in a dry and weary land where there is no water. ***** Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you. I will praise you as long as I live, and in your name I will lift up my hands. Psalm 63:1, 3-4
The Psalms are filled with an equal amount of complaint and praise. The more we receive the grace of God the better we are attuned to seeing those around us with compassion. The better we learn God is enough, the greater our capacity is to act with justice and healing towards others.
My soul is satisfied.
The only way I know to grow in intimacy with another is to intentionally increase my affection through praise. Looking for the many ways love is displayed in my day, from the smallest to the grandest gesture, creates an awareness of great friendship. Fellowship with God requires a contemplative spirit, with less concern about who I am becoming and more interest in his significance. The more there is of God, the less there is of me.
This is my confidence. The real me is free to have BIG FEELINGS and BIG FEARS, unhidden from the Lord. Complaint. But in his refuge is so large a security that I can live and grow up in an authentic love for God and for those he has placed in my life. How then, can there be anything less than praise?
