But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night. Psalm 1:2
Before Thanksgiving I started reading 5 Psalms and 8 verses of Psalm 119 daily, reading through the book of Psalms in its entirety each month. I plan to spend 2016 as a year immersed in the language of prayer. 2015 was perhaps one of the most difficult years of my life, and I have emerged concerned about my lack of patience and generosity towards others, the others typically being the ones I love most.
As Eugene Peterson teaches, the Psalms help us remember:
1) our good creation
2) our experienced sin
3) the saving action of God that leaves nothing and no one out of the reclamation of the whole country of earth for love.
I need these reminders, especially in another trans-Atlantic move. We have been uprooted 5 times in the last 6 years. I not only love being immersed in God’s word, but I know it nourishes an inner poverty of spirit. I need prayer as my personal language, not to make me nice but to allow me to be authentic and accurate in my humanness.
I hope to post one verse and maybe one photo each day from my meditations. I’m doing this here to stay accountable, to offer one daily refreshment for our souls, and to create a place for all of us to move from intimidation in our crazy world to adoration of our Deliverer. I look forward to what God will do for us, through us, and in this Favored space.
Know that I welcome your company in this year’s journey and look forward to anything you would share with in fellowship here.
