heart1 Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.  Psalm 139:23,24

What you could be.

This phrase lifts off page after page in a novel I recently read. It could be spoken over every human being who has or will draw breath.

What you could be.

Through circumstance, the time in which we live, the family to whom we are given, we sometimes believe our purpose for being is alterable.

What you could be – this is unchangeable, for our potential is outside of ourselves, we the created.

Born with science and invention fueling the mind, or eyes consumed with birds, light, trees and art, or fingertips for wiping tears, or arms to raise shelter over the head of a brother, or a voice to speak the truth – what you could be.

Ours is a lifetime of discovery, for God is unavoidable. A lifetime for pursuing God, who knows our every thought. Of becoming acquainted with ourselves, our motives, fears, and dreams. Of responding to the story being made of our lives, and finding courage through freedom to be exactly who we were made to be.

He is always there, “all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.” (vs 16)

Our lives, not a mechanical script, but a fluid, patient relationship of love.

Leading in the way everlasting, often through trials and many failures, with time, time, time to move past being simply okay with who you are to being content with your mind, your eyes, your fingertips, and arms, and voice.

To be content and at peace with a God who searches your heart and never, ever leaves you.

Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence?   (vs 7)

Amen.
