It is best when we learn to be patient with the human condition.
Throughout time we have had gods around; we tell stories about them, frame worship rules around them, chase after, try to appease, and stuff them in our mouths to feed our emptiness.
But the Christian knows the only God who has plunged into history and the human life, perfect unity between human and divine, to participate in our story from the inside. God in human flesh. This God is not undone by our discomforting humanity. Instead, He is patient. What are human beings that you are mindful of them, mortals that you care for them? Yet you have made them a little lower than God, and crowned them with glory and honor. Psalm 8:4-5
We are but specs of dust, and yet He calls us honored children when we have received him. It is not our spirituality that counteracts our wicked, flawed, and foolish humanity. It is the patience of God, come to save us. Jesus in us, in the midst of our anger, prayers, love, generosity, selfishness, lies – our earthiness. “There’s nothing, absolutely nothing, that God can’t and doesn’t use to work his salvation and holiness into our lives.” Eugene Peterson
Blessed is he who has regard for the weak; the LORD delivers him in times of trouble. Psalm 41:1
